Often called “red tea,” “red bush tea,” or simply rooibos, it is made from the leaves of the Aspalathus linearis plant rather than the Camellia sinensis plant used for traditional black, green, white, and oolong teas.

This certified organic rooibos brews a rich reddish-amber cup with a naturally mild, rounded flavor. Rooibos is native to South Africa, particularly the Cederberg region of the Western Cape, where the Aspalathus linearis plant naturally grows. The name “rooibos” means “red bush” in Afrikaans.

For generations, rooibos has been enjoyed in South Africa as an everyday beverage. It is commonly served hot and may be enjoyed plain or with milk, sugar, honey, or lemon. Today, rooibos is widely appreciated around the world as a naturally caffeine-free alternative to traditional tea.

Brewing Instructions

Use 1.5 teaspoons of loose rooibos per 8 oz of water.

• Water Temperature: 208°F
• Steep Time: 5–6 minutes
• Amount: 1.5 teaspoons per 8 oz water

For a stronger cup, rooibos can be steeped a little longer without developing significant bitterness.

Approximately 2 oz of tea provides 25–30 teaspoons, depending on leaf density and measuring method.

For iced tea, brew slightly stronger than usual, allow to cool, and pour over ice.
