Why We Love It
This set brings the beauty and function of traditional matcha preparation into one coordinated collection. Each tool has a purpose—from the sifter that creates a finer texture to the bamboo whisk that produces a light, creamy froth. The Japanese-made ceramics add an elegant finishing touch, while the generous 100-gram package of ceremonial-grade matcha provides plenty of tea for establishing a personal ritual.
How to Prepare Matcha
-
Place the bamboo whisk in warm water for 1–2 minutes to soften the tines.
-
Add approximately two bamboo scoops, or 1–2 teaspoons, of matcha to the strainer.
-
Sift the matcha directly into the bowl to remove clumps.
-
Add 2–3 ounces of hot water. For the best flavor, use water below boiling, approximately 175°F.
-
Whisk briskly from the wrist using a rapid “W” or “M” motion until a fine layer of foam forms.
-
Enjoy as prepared, or add more water or milk to create your preferred matcha drink.
Product Care
🍵 Bamboo Whisk (Chasen)
-
Pre-soak: Dip the tines in warm water for 1–2 minutes before every use. This softens the bamboo and helps prevent cracking.
-
Whisk carefully: Use quick “W” or “M” motions from the wrist. Avoid pressing or dragging the tines against the bottom of the bowl.
-
Rinse only: Clean immediately under hot running water or whisk it briefly in a clean bowl of hot water. Never use dish soap or place it in a dishwasher, as bamboo can absorb unwanted flavors.
-
Dry properly: Place the whisk upside down on the ceramic whisk holder to preserve its flared shape. If a holder is unavailable, stand it upright on its handle. Never leave it resting flat on wet tines.
🥄 Bamboo Scoop (Chashaku) and Sifter
-
Bamboo scoop: Do not wash it with water, which may cause the bamboo to warp. Wipe it clean after use with a dry cloth or paper towel.
-
Metal sifter: Wash with warm water and mild soap to remove matcha dust. Dry thoroughly after washing.
🥣 Ceramic Bowl (Chawan)
-
Hand wash: Rinse promptly with warm water to help prevent staining. Use a small amount of gentle dish soap if necessary.
-
Air-dry completely: Dry on an open shelf with good ventilation. Do not stack or store the bowl while damp.
📦 Matcha Powder
-
Seal airtight: Keep matcha tightly sealed in its original foil pouch or tin. Exposure to air can diminish its bright color and fresh flavor.
-
Keep cool: Refrigerate the sealed container for maximum freshness. Before opening, allow it to approach room temperature for a few minutes to reduce the risk of condensation.
